Born Into Love, Raised in Strength

Charles Neilson Philip Taylor III was a man whose life blended ambition, creativity, and an unshakeable devotion to the people he loved. Born on September 3rd, 1983, he entered the world and brought light, love and joy to all who encountered him. Charles The III is the son of two prominent Liberian figures: Charles McArthur Ghankay Taylor Sr., former President of the Republic of Liberia, and madam Jewel Howard Taylor, former First Lady and the first female Vice President of the Republic of Liberia. His lineage placed him at the intersection of history, leadership, and legacy, yet Charles carried this heritage with humility, warmth, and a grounded sense of self.

The Bonds That Shaped Him

Raised in a large and vibrant household, Charles was the fifth oldest of fifteen siblings, a role that shaped his character in profound and lasting ways. Surrounded by brothers and sisters whom he loved and absolutely adored, he developed a deep sense of loyalty, unity, and responsibility. Family was the heartbeat of his world the place where his humour, resilience, and generous spirit were first formed.

His Children, His World

Among his greatest joys was fatherhood. Charles was a loving, caring, and devoted father of five, and he embraced that role with pride and tenderness. His children were his motivation, his inspiration, and the centre of his dreams for the future. Everything he pursued, whether in music, education, or personal growth, was done with them in mind.

His Creative Expression

From a young age, Charles displayed a natural gift for music. He was a talented rapper with a distinctive voice and a creative energy that set him apart. His artistry led him to feature on notable tracks such as “Pot Boiling,” and he went on to produce his own music, including one of his most celebrated songs, “Charles Taylor.” Music was more than a passion; it was his expression, his storytelling, and his connection to the world. Through rhythm and lyric, he carved out a space that was uniquely his.

The Path Toward Excellence

As he matured, Charles’s vision expanded. His drive and determination pushed him to pursue academic excellence with the same intensity he brought to his music. This journey led him to the Regional Maritime University in Accra, Ghana, a respected institution known for shaping leaders in the maritime and logistics sectors. There, he committed himself wholeheartedly to his studies, demonstrating discipline, focus, and a deep desire to build a meaningful future.

Excellence Recognised

In July 2023, his hard work culminated in a remarkable achievement: earning a Master’s degree in Shipping and Port Administration. This milestone brought immense pride to his family, who celebrated him with admiration and joy. Relatives and close associates recognised not only the accomplishment itself, but the dedication, sacrifice, and vision that carried him there.

Charles embodied a rare balance, the soul of an artist, the mind of a scholar, and the heart of a devoted father and brother. His journey reflected growth, evolution, and a constant striving toward betterment. Though his time was far too short, his impact remains powerful.

He leaves behind a legacy of creativity, ambition, and love, a legacy carried forward by the siblings he cherished, the children he adored, the music he created, and the example he set for all who knew him. His life was a testament to purpose, passion, and the beauty of becoming.

As we awoke this morning with tears in our eyes, our hearts are filled with deep gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love, compassion, and support shown to our family following the passing of our beloved son, Charles Neilson Phillip Taylor, who left us just a little over a week ago. Even now, it feels unreal that he is gone at such a young age.

Yet, in the midst of our sorrow, we lift our voices in thanksgiving to Yahweh, our Maker and King, for the precious gift of the 42 years we were blessed to share with Charles. His life, though far too short, was a blessing we will forever cherish.

We wish to sincerely thank former President George Manneh Weah and officials of the CDC who came to visit on Tuesday, immediately upon hearing of Charles’ passing.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Vice President Koung and his wife, former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the Honorable Speaker, the Pro Tempore, and members of all three branches of government who have continued to console and stand with our family during this most painful period.

Last, but certainly not least, we are deeply grateful for the visits, prayers, and comforting words from church leaders, musicians, classmates, organizations, and compassionate citizens from all walks of life who have taken the time to express their sympathy.
